Paintings, Gems & Chinese Works of Art Highlights at 888 Auctions’ August 13, 2020 Auction

 

Richmond Hill, ON – With the summer season wrapping up, buyers are cautiously returning back to find a wide variety of arts and antiques and participating in online-only auctions. Many bidders, enjoying the auction from the comfort of their own home, continue to be attracted to quality fresh-to-market items. 888 Auctions is proud to feature 380 items which will be available to the highest bidder at its Paintings, Gems & Chinese Works of Art auction with live online and phone bidding starting at 2 PM (EST).

 

The highlight of the auction is Lot 149, an attributed Pablo Picasso Spanish Oil on Canvas Dated 6.17.53. Featuring a cubist portrait and signed Picasso and inscribed 6.17.53 underneath the signature on the upper left corner, this attributed Picasso piece at Lot 149 is expected to surpass its high estimate of $5,000.

From the category of prints, lithographs and etchings, several standout pieces have been garnering interest from savvy bidders. Headlining this category is Lot 40, a John Lennon/Yoko Ono “Self Portrait” Serigraph COA. This work features a self-portrait. “PRINTERS PROOF 2/3” present near bottom left corner, with illegible signature. Accompanied by Certificate of Authenticity and signed letter from Legacy Productions. This serigraph commands a high estimate of $3,000.

Diamonds continue to consistently find a buyer at 88 Auctions and this sale features one at Lot 272. A 1.05 ct Brilliant Round Diamond D Color VS2 NGIC is expected to find a buyer at or above the high estimate of $2,500.

 

Chinese works of art continue to be a strong draw at 888 Auctions and with the inclusion of Lot 361, a Chinese Openwork Reticulated Porcelain Vase Qianlong Mark, many bidders will be waiting in anticipation for the online auction. With an inset medallion depicting auspicious waves in front of crashing waves and above and below, this vase is expected to bring in a hammer price greater than its high estimate of $6,000.
