Ancient Coins, Gems, and Fine Art Featured at 888 Auctions’ July 30, 2020 Auction

 

Richmond Hill, ON – With the uncertainty of COVID-19, buyers have been cautious yet optimistic in their buying behaviour with sell-through rates remaining consistent but average hammer prices being lower than at the same time last year. Hoping to find a discount in the marketplace, buyers have increasingly shifted to online bidding with a noticeable uptick in online bidders at 888 Auctions. Bidders continue to be attracted to quality fresh-to-market items. Therefore, 888 Auctions is proud to feature 379 items which will be available to the highest bidder at its Ancient Coins, Gems & Fine Art auction with live online and phone bidding starting at 2 PM (EST).

 

The star lot of the auction can be found at Lot 211, an attributed Rene Magritte Belgium Golconde Signed Lithograph. Featuring surrealist composition of suited men floating in the air. “magritte” printed in the bottom right corner, and signed “magritte” beneath the image. Lot 211 is signed “Mourlot” in the bottom left corner with “557/750” inscribed beside it. Accompanied by certificate from Damask Fine Art, Lot 211 is expected to surpass its high estimate of $4,000.

 

Another lithograph can be found at Lot 226, a John Lenon British Lithograph Signed Yoko Ono. This piece carries a high estimate of $500.

An Old Masters makes an appearance in the form of an attributed Leonardo Da Vinci Italian Oil on Panel Painting, stamped Galerie Beyeler PARIS at Lot 222. Featuring women doing laundry, this piece features a $2,000 high estimate.

 

Ancient coins have experienced a resurgence and with the catalog featuring over 40 ancient coins from antiquity, numismatic collectors will be pleased to find the inclusion of Lot 46, a Gordian III 238 – 244 AD Tetradrachm of Antioch coin (High Estimate: $200)
