888 Auctions Ushers in Spring Season with April 6 Sale
Richmond Hill, ON – Ushering in the spring weather will be 888 Auctions April 6 sale. 417 fresh-to-market items will be available for discerning collectors to bid. Featuring ceramics, jade and stone carved items, jewellery, and paintings, the auction will be a crowd-pleasing event.
Headlining the spring auction will be Lot 143A, a 17/18 Century Imperial Yellow Jade Seal. The jade carved seal is extremely rare but makes an appearance. Featuring a square section surmounted by crouching dragon in intricately carved relief, the seal face is incised with four characters “Yu Qian Zhi Bao” (seal to dominate the army). Weighing a robust 4,420 grams, it commands a high estimate of $800,000.
Two paintings have been garnering considerable interest on the showroom floors. Lot 78 and Lot 79 are two fine oil pieces. Lot 78 is a Canadian Oil on Board painting signed and attributed to Lawren Stewart Harris (1885-1970). Dated Circa 1914, it is entitled, “Joe Lake Algonquin Park” and expected to surpass its high estimate of $80,000. Lot 79 features an Oil on Canvas painting signed front and back and attributed to Paul-Emile Borduas (1905-1960). Dated 1950, this abstract oil on canvas painting features a high estimate of $60,000.
From the collection of ceramic paintings, Lot 270 is a standout piece and features a large Chinese Copper Red Fish Porcelain Bowl. The interior is painted with carps amongst water weeds and other aquatic plants. Lot 270 features a $30,000 high estimate.
