Jade, Jewellery, and Asian Works of Art Lead the Way at 888 Auctions

Richmond Hill, ON –The fall season is fully underway and definitively marks the return of high quality and prestigious, fresh-to-market items from 888 Auctions. Although the temperatures continue to drop, prices are expected to soar October 10 with 455 lots offered to the highest bidder.

Leading the auction are a pair of jade carved items. Lot 117 features an extremely rare Western Han Dynasty White Jade Carved Seal. It is of large square form with a slanted trapezoidal top and surmounted by a coiling chilling in high relief. The surface of the stone is of mottled russet tone but the quality of the relief carving is in immaculate condition. The seal was brought to Toronto from Hong Kong and expected to exceed its high estimate of $160,000.

Another standout jade carved seal can be found soon afterward at Lot 118: A Qing Dynasty Chinese Imperial Green Jade Carved Seal. Surmounted by a pair of intertwining dragons and of square section, the seal is incised with Manchu and seal script calligraphy on the sides. The seal face is carved with eight characters Gu xi tian zi zhi bao (translated “Treasure of the Seventy-year old Son of Heaven”. Weighing 2,213 grams and in excellent condition, the imperial green jade seal commands a high estimate of $140,000.

Considering its quality but relatively low estimate in comparison to Lot 117 and Lot 118, Lot 123 will garner significant interest. Lot 123 features a Chinese white jade carved boat hailing from the 17th or 18th century. Finely carved in high relief, it carries a $12,000 high estimate.

Jewellery continues to be in demand and 888 Auctions continues to feature quality pieces available to the highest bidder. For the discerning collector, Lot 202 is sure to be quite a treat. It features a Fine Golden Sea Pearl Necklace and comprised of thirty-eight South Sea pearls. Estimated at $18,000, Lot 202 has attracted considerable interest already.

Another star lot of the auction hails from 888 Auctions’ collection of ceramic pieces. Lot 345 is a Qing Famille Rose Porcelain Wall Vase with Qianlong Mark on base. The petite, flat-back vase of ovoid form is raised on a slightly splayed foot with a waisted neck flanked by a pair of stylised chilong-shaped handles; painted with a square-shaped panel with floral branches all within the pink-glazed ground decorated with leafy scrolls and Shou longevity emblem, the wall vase carries a high estimate of $20,000.

Other standout pieces can be found nestled at the following lots:

Lot 38: Watercolour on Paper Scroll Xu Beihong 1895-1953 (High Estimate: $30,000)

Lot 171: Fine 14K Green Jadeite Ring (High Estimate: $4,000)

Lot 407: 17th Century Chinese Gilt Bronze Buddha Figure (High Estimate: $20,000)
