Auction Overview:

Richmond Hill, ON – 395 fresh to market items will be available to the highest bidder Thursday, September 13, 2018 with knowledgeable collectors and discerning buyers participating and competing against one another over a variety of quality items on display at 888 Auctions. With fine art, Chinese coins and Asian antiques featuring heavily in the sale, there will be something for everybody in the first auction of the autumn season.

Featured Art:

The star piece of the auction features a gouache and tempera on paper surreal portrait attributed to Rene Magritte (Belgian, 1898-1967) at lot 79. This piece features a common subject of the man wearing a hat facing a mirror with an apple covering his face and is expected to command higher than its high estimate of $8,000.

Another surreal piece can also be seen at Lot 83, an Yves Tanguy (French, 1900-1955) Gouache and Oil on Paper. Featuring a surrealist landscape scene and signed on the lower corner, this important piece is garnering significant interest in the catalog and expected to exceed its high estimate of $6,000.

The last surrealist painter highlighted in the auction is a Joan Miro (Spanish, 1893-1983) Gouache on paper work nestled at Lot 92. Featuring a surrealist composition portrait and signed on the lower left margin, this piece features a high estimate of $6,500.

The public viewing period is as follows: Monday, September 10 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Tuesday, September 11 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Wednesday, September 12, 2018 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and just before the auction on Thursday, September 13 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
