Banksy Life and Impact:

Banksy, is an anonymous urban artist who has made a career of creating and displaying publicly very stunning and often times social, political, and controversial art.  His works, intermingled with fun and the audacious, are very popular with the masses.  They bringing into focus the issues impacting people in a day to day basis.

Most recently, Banksy created a huge buzz in not only the art world but also in the mainstream news.  He ‘created’ an art piece which self-destructed in an auction at Sotheby’s in London.  The piece of a “Girl with Balloon,” now referred to officially as “Love is in the Bin” began shredding immediately after the ‘sold’ gavel was hit!  This piece which had sold for £1.04m was soon appraised to be worth at least double of what was originally paid. This piece could also be seen as a commentary on how absurd the sensationalizing and pricing of modern art can be.   How much the piece sold for and its rapid appreciation seems to validate Banksy’s statement.
