888 Auctions’ January 30, 2020 Auction Set to Feature Modern Art, Gemstones & Asian Antiques

Richmond Hill, ON – Fresh off a successful auction that reached new heights and strong hammer prices, 888 Auctions is proud to feature another auction, Modern Art, Gemstones & Asian Antiques with 401 fresh-to-market pieces available to the highest bidder. The live auction will be conducted on the gallery floor of 888 Auctions Thursday, January 30, 2020 at 2 PM (EST).

Visit the auction at 888 Auctions during the public viewing period: Monday, January 27, 2020 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesday, January 28 2020 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Wednesday, January 29, 2020 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m and just before the auction on Thursday, January 30, 2020 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

The cover lot for this auction features a very understated but wonderfully executed piece at . Lot 51. This acrylic on canvas piece features blocky figures and is signed RAY CUEVAS on the bottom right corner. Sticker reads “7013204 05/06” and is affixed to top stretched bar on verso.This Raymond Cuevas (b.1932, American) piece is expected to surpass its high estimate of $2,000.

Not to be outdone, there are other standout pieces from the modern art category currently garnering significant interest and expected to command strong prices at the fall of the auctioneers’ hammer. They can be found at the lots below:

888 Auctions also will be featuring an instrument for sale. Lot 402 features a 1780 British Violin Benjamin Banks 1727-1795. Lot 402 is signed B. BANKS on back and inside. Dated 1780. With case and bow. Benjamin Banks (1727-1795, British), inspired by Nicolo Amati and known as the ‘English Amati’, Banks emerged as a stringed instrument maker in the 1760s in Salisbury in the West of England with a fully developed style representative of the best London practices of the day. This violin is expected to surpass its $4,000 high estimate.

The market for Asian antiques continues to find strong prices at auction and one standout piece is sure to be a crowd pleasing favorite. Found at Lot 75 is an attributed Zhang Daqian 1899-1983 Chinese Ink Lotus Scroll on Paper. Featuring a lotus and inscribed with one artist seal, this hanging scroll features a $1,500 high estimate.
