First Auction of the Year at 888 Auctions’ January 16, 2019 Auction Featuring Modern Art, Chinese Paintings & Antiques

Richmond Hill, ON – With a successful 2019 behind them, 888 Auctions is ready to begin anew with a plethora of 429 fresh-to-market items highlighting Modern Art, Chinese Paintings and Antiques at its January 16, 2019 auction. The live auction will be conducted on the gallery floor of 888 Auctions Thursday, January 16, 2019 at 2 PM (EST).

Visit the auction at 888 Auctions during the public viewing period: Monday, January 13, 2019 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesday, January 14, 2019 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Wednesday, January 15, 2019 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m and just before the auction on Thursday, January 16, 2019 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

The cover lot for this auction features an absolute rarity at Lot 147: an original Henry Moore British Plaster Maquette. Entitled, “Reclining Figure: Holes” and dated 1975. Lot 174 carries an archive sticker inscribed “0076952″. Accompanied with a catalog description and a signed letter of provenance dated 16th February from Henry Moore and addressed to Martha (Spencer), the letter alludes to three plaster maquettes, two of which are in the catalog with the other found at Lot 117 of this catalog. This piece carries some fascinating provenance in which it was archived under by the Henry Moore Foundation. It was then given to Martha Spencer, Hartford and thence by descent to her daughter Judy Allison, Scorton. Subsequently it was acquired in 2017 by the current owner. Lot 174 and Lot 117 carry high estimates of $15,000 and $12,000, respectively.
