Modern Art, Fine Paintings & Asian Antiques Featured in March 28 Auction at 888 Auctions

Richmond Hill, ON – With the beginning of the busy spring season, 888 Auctions is proud to feature a 432-lot auction featuring some of the most interesting and eclectic collection of items. These fresh-to-market items showcasing the finest in Modern Art, Fine Paintings and Asian Antiques will be sold to the highest bidder Thursday, March 28, 2019 at 2 PM (EST).

Headlining the auction will be Lot 45, an Andy Warhol Silkscreen. Featuring a portrait of Debbie Harry, this silkscreen is signed Andy Warhol (1928-1987, American) alongside the right margin in pencil and inscribed 1/300. Lot 45 is expected to surpass its high estimate of $5,000.

Another piece expected to garner a significant hammer price by the fall of the auctioneer’s hammer can be found at Lot 66, a Winston Churchill British Impressionist Oil on Board Painting. This piece features a landscape scene of a coastal beach. Signed WSC on the lower right corner and stamped Galerie-Beyeler PARIS, lot 66 is expected to command far higher than its $8,000 high estimate.

Another impressionist piece can also be found at Lot 119, a Daniel Garber American Impressionist Oil on Paper. Featuring a farm landscape scene and signed Daniel Garber (1881-1958, American) on the lower right corner, this piece features a $5,000 high estimate.

Abstract expressionist pieces always command strong attention from collectors and several standout pieces can be found at the lots below:

Lot 101: Helen Frankenthaler American Abstract Oil on Canvas (High Estimate: $5,000)
Lot 164: Cy Twombly American Abstract Oil on Board (High Estimate: $5,000)
Lot 216: Adolph Gottlieb American Abstract Oil on Canvas (High Estimate: $5,000)
Lot 241: Frantisek Kupka Czech Orphist Acrylic on Paper (High Estimate: $5,000)
Lot 243: Attr. Jackson Pollock US Abstract Mixed Media (High Estimate: $6,000)

Another Norval Morrisseau piece will be featured in this spring auction and is already finding considerable interest. Lot 213 features Norval Morrisseau Canadian Acrylic on Wood Panel. This piece features a raven and snake and signed Norval Morrisseau in Cree syllabics on the lower right corner. Verso features authenticity statement and signed David Morrisseau, son of Norval Morrisseau. Today, his work can be found in the collections of the Royal Ontario Museum, the National Gallery of Canada, the Dennos Museum Center, and the Art Gallery of Windsor, among many others. This piece carries exceptional provenance hailing from the Gallery Sunami and is now owned within an important Canadian collection. This carries an $8,000 high estimate.

For collectors who are looking for excellent pieces at an affordable price, lithographs may be a viable alternative. In this auction, Lot 221 headlines the lithograph category and features a Tamara de Lempicka Polish Lithograph. Signed T. de Lempicka and numbered 17/100 on the lower left bottom, this piece carries a $2,000 high estimate.

Signed autographed memorabilia continue to find interest from seasoned and novice collectors alike and bidders will be excited to find the inclusion of Lot 425, a John Lennon Autographed Baseball accompanied by a JSA Letter of Authenticity. Lot 425 carries a high estimate of $2,000.

Chinese watercolor paintings executed in its typical brushwash ink style continues to find prices that are climbing ever-more upwards. Lot 93, a Zhang Daqian 1899-1983 Chinese Watercolor Scroll, looks to continue that trend and features a high estimate of $3,000.

For those interested in a more uniquely American piece, Lot 245 may be a pleasant and surprising find: a Lois Mailou Jones Harlem Renaissance Oil on Canvas. Featuring a landscape composition scene, this piece features a high estimate of $6,000 and is expected to garner strong interest.
