888 Auctions’ February 12 Sale to Showcase Important Excavated Saudi Arabian Clay Bound Manuscript Book

Richmond Hill, ON – 888 Auctions’ February 12th sale of Chinese Paintings, Jade & Carvings will showcase 501 lots of Asian Works of Art with a particular focus on Chinese watercolour ink-brush paintings.

Despite the dominance of Chinese works of arts, highlighting the February sale will be an in Important Saudi Arabian clay bound manuscript excavated at a Saudi Arabian archaeological site. Featured at Lot 170, the well-preserved clay book features four pages of carvings depicting incised designs of figures and ancient script carrying a high estimate of $20,000.

Chinese watercolour paintings continue to find high interest and high prices; collectors will be pleased to hear the inclusion of works of Qiu Yin (1494-1552), Wu Jingting (1904-1972), and Fu Baoshi (1904-1965):

Lot 63: Chinese WC Painting Figures Qiu Yin 1494-1552 (High Estimate: $6,000)

Lot 70: Chinese Handscroll Figures Fu Baoshi 1904-1965 (High Estimate: $12,000)

Lot 111: Chinese Painting Figures Wu Jingting (1904-1972) (High Estimate: $6,000)

From the collection of jade carvings, that have become a staple at 888 Auctions, comes Lot 277A: A Fine Chinese Imperial Jade Bead Necklace. This finely carved necklace features Hetian White spherical beads alternating with intertwined rings and carries a high estimate of $20,000. Following closely behind can be found Lot 294: A 15th Century Ming Dynasty Openwork Carved Jade Hair Ornament. The translucent white toned jade features a continuous openwork carved scene of a crane and trees in fine relief. It is expected to surpass its high estimate of $6,500. 888 Auctions’ jade collection would not be completed without a finely carved bangle which can be found at Lot 240. The lavender toned jade bangle also features green suffusions and commands a high estimate of $12,000.

Despite tight restrictions on horn and ivory carved works of art, 888 Auctions continue to find buyers for its horn and ivory carvings. Found near the end of the auction can be found a Fine Chinese Ivory Carved Figure of an Old Man at Lot 489. Hailing from the Qing Dynasty it carries a high estimate of $10,000. In addition, Lot 471 features a Finely Carved Chinese Libation Cup with a high estimate of $12,000.
