Richmond Hill, ON – Prices continue to soar at 888 Auctions with sell-through rates of 99% being achieved in its numismatics categories. Leading the way are Chinese numismatic coins and 888 Auctions will be featuring over 200 lots of rare and intriguing coins from Chinese antiquity dating as far back as the 1st Century. Featuring 418 fresh-to-market items, collectors will be delighted to find the inclusion of coins from all eras, modern paintings from estates and private collections, as well as quality Asian antiques.

Four coins highlight this week’s sale and they are remarkable in both their pristine condition as well as their diverse rarity. The four coins can be found at the following lots below:

Lot 193: 1310-1311 Yuan Dynasty Dayuan Tongbao H 17.46 (High Estimate: $500)

Lot 210: 221-265 Kingdom of Shu Taiping Baiqian 100 Cash (High Estimate: $600)

Lot 217: 386-534 Northern Wei Yongan Wuzhu Bronze Coin (High Estimate: $250)

Lot 262: 983 Liao Dynasty Tonghe Yuannian Bronze Charm Coin (High Estimate: $900)

From the modern paintings category, several outstanding pieces from private collections around the world abound at 888 Auctions April 26 sale. Most notably, a Keith Haring with provenance, can be found at Lot 28. With a gallery label on verso, it carries a high estimate of $15,000.

Lot 52, featuring a gouache on paper painting, is a fine piece attributed to Alexandra Exter, the avant-garde Russian painter who became famous for her advocacy of European modernist movements in Russia, such as Cubism and Futurism. This finely framed work carries a high estimate of $6,500.

Lot 65, an acrylic on board and a painting attributed to Tom Wesselmann with a gallery label on verso, is an exceptional piece acquired by a private collector from the estate of Tom Wesselmann. Wesselmann was considered one of the major artists of New York Pop Art, along with Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol. He is best known for his 1960s series “Great American Nude,” which featured flat figures in an intense palette of red, white, blue, and other patriotic colors; Wesselmann, in an effort to reject Abstract Expressionism, made collages and assemblages that incorporated everyday objects and advertising ephemera. This lot is one such example and commands a high estimate of $15,000.

Three European modern paintings also feature heavily in the auction and can be found at the following lots:

Lot 68: Gustav Klimt Austrian 1862-1918 Oil on Paper Lady (High Estimate: $9,000)

Lot 72: Chaim Soutine Russian 1893-1943 Oil on Canvas (High Estimate: $7,500)
