Yayoi Kusama to Lead 888 Auctions’ Final Summer August 13 CHINESE PAINTINGS, CERAMICS & WORKS OF ART

Richmond Hill, Ontario – Over 500 fine Chinese paintings, ceramics, carvings and works of art will be sold to the highest bidder on Thursday, August 13th, by 888 Auctions at 1 p.m. EDT at its CHINESE PAINTINGS, CERAMICS & WORKS OF ART.

Featuring Asian paintings and ceramics, 888 Auctions final summer sale will continue to highlight an exceptional collection of watercolour paintings, fine porcelain, and stone carvings.

The trend of outstanding prices achieved for 888’s collection of paintings has allowed for the inclusion of a Framed Acrylic on Canvas painting signed by the avant-garde artist, Yayoi Kusama and dated 1989 on the back. Lot 18 features sea horses and boasts provenance which is certified by Ace Fine Art Hiroyuki Haoka (2010). Expected to garner considerable interest, this exceptional piece carries a conservative high estimate of $30,000.

Some notable Chinese ink brushwash paintings can also be found at the following lots:

Lot 36: Chinese Watercolour Painting Scroll, signed Ding Guanpeng 1736-1795 (High Estimate: $12,000)
Lot 37: Chinese Watercolour Painting Scroll, signed Zhang Daqian 1899-1983 (High Estimate: $6,000)

The resurgence of porcelain in 2015 has been a pleasant surprise and portends future fortunes to be made. Collectors will be please to find the inclusion of Lot 338: Chinese Porcelain White Vase; featuring double ears on the neck of the hu-style shaped white-glazed body and decorated with archaistic Chilong pattern in relief; bearing the six-character Qianlong Mark, the vase carries an $18,000 high estimate.

Collectors interested in the Doucai-enameled porcelain will also be delighted to spot Lot 316: A Doucai Porcelain Saucer bearing the mark of Yongzheng. Featuring chrysanthemum scroll work at the centre this fine porcelain piece commands a $12,000 high estimate.

Another fine porcelain vase can be found at Lot 353: Chinese Gilt Famille Rose Vase Qianlong Mark; featuring auspicious molded peaches on the neck and an iron red five-toed dragon on the body, the nearly-28 cm vase is expected to surpass its $8,000 high estimate.

An auction featuring Asian works of art would not be completed without finely carved pieces and this sale is no exception. Lot 210: a Chinese Fine Two Color White Jade Carving featuring children on carp (High Estimate: $14,000) and Lot 496: Chinese Fine White Jade Carved Screen (High Estimate: $12,000) both feature prominently in the sale and have already garnered considerable interest.
