Modern Paintings, Sports Memorabilia & Antiques Spearhead 888 Auctions August 29, 2019
Richmond Hill, ON – 888 Auctions closes the summer season off with a tremendous offering of Modern Paintings, Sports Memorabilia and Antiques in its August 29, 2019 auction. Featuring 419 fresh-to-market items and several standout pieces, the highly anticipated last auction of the summer will be held at 888 Auctions’ gallery floor, Thursday, August 15, 2019 at 2 PM (EST).
The star lot of the auction is an attributed lithograph, Gustav Klimt Austrian Nouveau Signed Litho 25/100 slotted in at Lot 106. This lithograph on paper features a portrait of a nude. Signed GUSTAV KlimT and inscribed 25/100 on the lower right and lower left corner. Stamp inscribed GUSTAV KLIMT. This portrait is expected to easily surpass its high estimate of $4,000.
Another impressive signed lithograph can be found at Lot 82, an attributed Wifredo Lam Cuban Surrealist Lithograph. Hailing from the same collection as Lot 106, this piece features an abstract composition and is inscribed with 4/20 on the bottom left and signed Wifredo on the bottom right corner. This piece features multiple stamps and inscriptions on verso and is expected to surpass its high estimate of $4,000.
Abstract paintings continue to draw considerable interest in the summer and with strong prices realized, bidders and collectors will be pleased to find the inclusion of several pieces, some of which are highlighted below with their respective high estimates:

Lot 267 deserves particular interest considering its size and execution. Lot 267 is an attributed Jackson Pollock American Abstract Oil on Canvas and is expected to at least reach its high estimate of $9,000.
Modern Pop Paintings continue to perform strongly at 888 Auctions. Two lots in particular are highlighted in this auction. Lot 53, an attributed Keith Haring American Pop Art Marker on Paper (High Estimate: $5,000); and Lot 143, an attributed Andy Warhol American Pop Mixed Media on Paper accompanied with an authenticity letter (High Estimate: $5,000).
