Modern Art, Gemstones & Asian Antiques to Feature at 888 Auctions September 26, 2019

Richmond Hill, ON – With the busy autumn season fully underway and coming off a successful summer season, the September 26 auction will feature Modern Art, Gemstones & Asian Antiques. Featuring 414 fresh-to-market items, the auction will be held at 888 Auctions’ gallery floor, Thursday, September 26, 2019 at 2 PM (EST).

Modern art feature heavily in this auction and it will be to no one’s surprise to find Lot 275 as the featured cover lot of the auction. Lot 275 is an attributed Joan Miro Spanish Surrealist Mixed Media on Paper. Featuring a surrealist composition and inscribed MIRO underneath the composition while also being signed Miro in pencil on verso, this attributed piece is expected to exceed its high estimate of $5,000.

Keeping with the theme of surrealist works of art are two pieces also expected to garner significant interest. Lot 238, an attributed Marc Chagall Russian French Surrealist Gouache; and Lot 260, an attributed Salvador Dali Spanish Surrealist Tempera on Paper continue to draw series views from online platforms and both command $5,000 high estimates each.

Ttwo pieces are highlighted in this auction: A Norval Morrisseau 1932-2007 Canadian Acrylic on Wood features at Lot 80 (High Estimate: $15,000) whereas a Manly E. Macdonald Canadian Oil on Canvas with Provenance (High Estimate: $6,000) can be found at Lot 256.

With increasing attention now paid towards female artists, three pieces may be of particular interest to collectors. Lot 141, an attributed Elaine de Kooning American Abstract Oil on Canvas (High Estimate: $5,000); Lot 134, an attributed Grace Crowley Australian Modernist Oil on Canvas (High Estimate: $5,000); and Lot 185, an attributed Georgia O’Keeffe American Modernist Oil on Canvas (High Estimate: $5,000).

The hot trend towards Pop and Contemporary Art continues to be a strong draw for many buyers and interested parties will be pleased to find the inclusion of an attributed Banksy piece which can be found at Lot 150. Signed and numbered, this piece is expected to exceed its high estimate of $5,000.
