Fine Art, Paintings, Antiques & Jewelry Set to Fetch High Prices at 888 Auctions’ March 14, 2019 Auction
Richmond Hill, ON – As the auction season continues to heat up with the weather, 888 Auctions will look to continue its trend of offering an excellent collection of items featuring 448 fresh-to-market items available to the highest bidder on Thursday, March 14, 2019.
Headlining the auction will be Lot 86, a Picasso signed oil on canvas, stretched and framed. Featuring a nude and signed Picasso while also being inscribed 14.8.55 on the upper right corner, this piece is expected to far surpass its high estimate of $9,000.
Another standout cubist piece is featured at Lot 52, a watercolor on paper featuring a nude and attributed to Amedeo Modigliani (1884-1920, Italian). Lot 52 is stamped illegibly on verso and features a high estimate of $5,000. Lot 102 has also been garnering interest; this attributed Henri Matisse (1869-1954, French) Gouache on paper painting features a reclined nude woman and commands a high estimate of $5,000.
From the category of Pop Art, 888 Auctions features a few excellent pieces. One piece from this category of the auction can be found at Lot 18, a Roy Lichtenstein American Pop Art Pencil on Paper painting. Signed Roy Lichtenstein (1923-1997, American) on the lower edge and inscribed RL326 while also being stamped SPACE GALLERY on verso, this piece is expected to easily surpass its high estimate of $5,000.

Featuring three figures in surrealist scene and executed on gouache on paper, this attributed Joan Miro (1893-1983, Spanish) features a high estimate of $6,000.

The first lot of the auction, an attributed Grace Crowley piece features an abstract expressionist composition and is expected to surpass its high estimate of $5,000. Likewise, Lot 67, an attributed Cy Twombly (1928-2011, American) features a high estimate of $5,000. Last but not least to be highlighted is Lot 143, an attributed Helen Frankenthaler (1928-2011, American) featuring a high estimate of $5,000.
Norval Morriseau – the Canadian Picasso of the North – makes an appearance March 14; Lot 2 features an Acrylic on Birch Skin piece. Norval Morrisseau (1932-2007, Canadian) was an Anishinaabe Aboriginal Canadian artist and best known for his paintings of mythical tableaux, his narrative works of figures and animals were painted in vibrant, fluorescent colors featuring thick black outlines akin to stained glass windows or woodcuts. “These paintings only remind you that you’re an Indian. Inside somewhere, we’re all Indians,” the self-taught artist once said. “So now when I befriend you, I’m trying to get the best Indian, bring out that Indianness in you to make you think that everything is sacred.”
Last but not least is a post-impressionist piece of a landscape scene. Signed WSC on the lower right corner, four labels are affixed to the verso of this piece providing an intriguing lot sure to interest many bidders. Attributed to Winston Churchill (1874-1965, United Kingdom), this piece features a high estimate of $6,000.
