Richmond Hill, ON – With Covid-19 putting a damper on economy, 888 Auctions continues to experience strength in bidding.  The demand for quality items and unique finds continues to show strength as collectors believe this lockdown is only a temporary measure as well as an opportunity to find items below market value.  On the consignment side the requests to sell items for clients is at a seasonal high as spring is typically the season homeowners will want to perform estate sales to clear out the clutter . 

 

In this auction collectors will be pleased to find a wide assortment of pieces.  The featured lot of this auction can be found at Lot 266, an AY Jackson Canadian Oil on Panel Group of Seven. This painting is signed  “A. Y. Jackson” in the bottom right corner and inscribed on verso, “Ont. 1961 a. y. Jackson”. Hailing from a Toronto estate, Lot 266 commands a high estimate of $40,000.

 

Two other lots have been garnering significant interest online. Lot 86, an attributed Wu Guanzhong 1919-2010 Chinese Mixed Media on paper. Featuring a city landscape scene and signed Wu Guangzhong, this piece is expected to surpass its high estimate of $5,000. The other lot expected to surpass its high estimate is Lot 245, an attributed Pal Fried American-Hungarian Oil on Canvas. Featuring two sitting ballet dancers and signed “FRIED PAL” in the top right corner, this attributed piece carries a high estimate of $5,000 as well.

Modern art continues to be a strong performing category and one lot in particular is highlighted in this catalog: Lot 82, an attributed Jean-Michel Basquiat American Mixed Media on Paper with Provenance. Featuring a crown and signed JMB on verso, this piece is inscribed with one line running down the middle of the card and a box with a large X crossed through on verso. This piece is accompanied with a letter of provenance and is expected to surpass its high estimate of $5,000.
