Carlo Canevari
Carlo Canevari (1922-1997) was the son of sculptor Silvio Canevari, and started his art studies at the Libera Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome. His first exhibition was at the Quadriennale in Rome in 1948. His first solo show was in 1952 at the Galleria L’Obelisco in Rome.
Canevari also exhibited at Galleria Russo in Rome, Galleria Gianesi in Florence, the Obelisk Gallery in Washington, D.C., The Palm Beach Gallery, the Denver Art Gallery, the Xavier University Art Gallery in Cincinnati, and at Nordness, Burrel, Emile Walter, and Hammer Galleries in New York.
Private collections include such prominent art collectors as Henry Fonda, Helena Rubenstein, President Ronald and Nancy Reagan, and the Robert Lehman Collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Canevari is best known for his images of mannered exaggerations and parodies of nuns, cardinals, and other prelates. PROVENANCE: Florence Art Gallery, Circa 200s. Private estate (California, United States)
