888 Auctions’ December 20 Auction Celebrates End of Year with Modern Paintings, Jewelry & Asian Antiques
Richmond Hill, ON – December 20 marks the final auction of the year where 888 Auction will be celebrating another successful year and marking the occasion by presenting 381 fresh-to-market lots to buyers and collectors alike. Taking place in the afternoon at 2 PM (EST), competing bidders will be able to bid on an eclectic collection of items on display with an emphasis on Modern Paintings, Jewelry, and Asian Art.
Lot 64 headlines the paintings from the modern art category which is a Tempera and Oil Painting Signed Gustav Klimt. The painting featuring an abstract landscape with a surrealist tree is signed on the lower left corner and signed by acclaimed Art Nouveau School Austrian artist, Gustav Klimt. Lot 64 carries a high estimate of $5,000.
Running with the surrealist theme, Lot 101 has been garnering significant interest from bidders around the world. This oil on canvas painting features a surreal fantasy scene with four figures. Signed Marc Chagall on the lower left corner and hailing from a private Toronto estate, this 19.7 x 27.6” piece is expected to far exceed its high estimate of $7,000.
Post-impressionist paintings are heavily featured in the auction. The following five pieces are also highlighted in the auction thus far:

- Lot 25: Polish Oil Woman Portrait Signed Lempicka (High Estimate: $6,000)

- Lot 126: Russian Suprematist OOB Signed Kazimir Malevich (High Estimate: $5,000)
- Lot 140: Czech Cubist Oil on Canvas Signed Josef Capek (High Estimate: $6,000)
Although Banksy continues to be a highlight of any auction it is featured in, American pop art and neo-expressionist pieces continue to draw strong interest from collectors. Therefore, the inclusion of Lot 101, an American Neo-Expressionist Mixed Signed Signed JMB will be a delight for those interested in pieces signed by Jean-Michel Basquiat. Featuring a neo-expressionist portrait wearing a crown, and hailing from an American private collection, this carries a strong high estimate of $5,000.
Chinese paintings continue to draw strong interest at 888 Auctions and the following two lots are highlighted in the last auction of 2018. Lot 35 features a Jin Tingbiao Qing Dynasty Chinese Watercolor Scroll painting (High Estimate: $8,000) and Lot 97 features a Xu Beihong Chinese 1895-1953 Watercolor painting (High Estimate: $4,500).
