Chinese Paintings, Modern Art & Antiques Feature Heavily at 888 Auctions February 14
Richmond Hill, ON – 888 Auctions will be featuring 416 fresh-to-market items in its February 14 auction showcasing a quality selection of Chinese Paintings, Modern Art & Antiques. Featuring several lots with high estimates, many onlookers are waiting in anticipation for some fireworks come February 14.
Slotted in at Lot 24 a Li Keran (Chinese, 1907-1989) Watercolor landscape painting has been garnering significant interest from bidders across the globe. This interest is with good reason as this piece is expertly executed in the traditional brushwash ink watercolor and inscribed with three artist’s seals. This piece commands a high estimate of $40,000.
Another standout Chinese watercolor piece that is expected to realize a strong price can also be found at Lot 55, a Xu Beihong (Chinese, 1895-1953) Watercolor featuring a herd of horses. This piece is expertly executed and emphasizes the free flowing movement of the horses in motion. Lot 55 is expected to exceed its $8,000 high estimate.

Lot 72: Zhang Daqian 1899-1983 Chinese Watercolor on Paper. Hanging Scroll Featuring Hermits (High Estimate: $6,000)
Three cubist expressionist pieces can also be found in the February auction among the modern artwork on display at 888 Auctions: Lot 52, a French Impressionist Mixed Media Signed Raoul Dufy (High Estimate: $5,000);
Lot 50A, a Spanish Cubist Oil on Canvas Signed Picasso (High Estimate: $6,000); and
Lot 130, a Indian Cubist Oil on Canvas Maqbol Fida Husain (High Estimate: $6,000).
Considered the Picasso of the North, a Norval Morrisseau (Canaidan, 1931–2007) Acrylic on Panel C.1976 will be showcased at Lot 100A. Featuring swimming fish and signed on the lower right corner and inscribed on verso in marker, “The Picture is of genuine Painting done by my father Normal Morrisseau (signature of) David Morriseau,” this piece commands an $8,000 high estimate.
Among the pop art category, two pieces are showcased in this auction and include the following below:
Lot 26: American Pop Art Ink Provenance Signed Andy Warhol (High Estimate: $5,000)
Lot 35: US Pop Ink Femlin Provenance Signed LeRoy Neiman (High Estimate: $5,000)
Last but not least, Salvador Dali continues to draw strong reactions on auction day and this auction is no exception. Featured at Lot 47, a Spanish Surrealist Oil on Canvas Signed Dali on the lower left corner is expected to surpass its high estimate of $6,000.
