American Art, Gemstones & Estate Antiques Lead the Way at 888 Auctions’ February 27, 2020 Auction 

Richmond Hill, ON – With the winter auction season comes to an eventful and busy finish, 888 Auctions is proud to feature American Art, Gemstones and Estate Antiques with live bidding taking place on the gallery floor of 888 Auctions Thursday, Feb 27, 2020 at 2 PM (EST).

Visit the auction at 888 Auctions during the public viewing period: Monday, February 24, 2020 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesday, February 25 2020 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Wednesday, February 26, 2020 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m and just before the auction on Thursday, February 27, 2020 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

The featured lot of this auction is Lot 126, an attributed Andy Warhol American Signed Poster of Beatles from a private French Estate. Featuring Featuring colorful portraits of the Beatles. “Andy Warhol” present near the bottom right corner. Signed “Andy Warhol” to the left. It is accompanied by a Certificate of Authentication and expected to surpass its high estimate of $2,000.

Another standout piece, but this time hailing from a Southern Ontario estate, can be found at Lot 157, an attributed Max Weber American Oil on Canvas painting. Featuring a portrait of an instrumentalist and signed Max Weber on the lower right corner, this piece is accompanied with a Jamroz Art gallery label affixed to verso. Lot 157 commands a high estimate of $5,000.

Three pieces in particular carry strong provenance with all exhibited at the Eden Art Gallery, Toronto, Ontario. They can be found at the lots below:

Lot 140: Andreas Duncan British Ink & Watercolor Christie’s (High Estimate: $4,000)

Lot 169: John William Orth American Oil on Board  “JW Orth” (High Estimate: $2,500)

Lot 198: Gus Nall American Abstract OOC Regent 22 (High Estimate: $1,200)

American modern art continues to be a strong performing category and this auction features an intriguing piece despite lacking the provenance of the aforementioned pieces. Lot 171, an attributed Lois Mailou Jones American Oil on Canvas Portrait Painting, features a portrait and is dated ‘55. This piece is expected to surpass its high estimate of $5,000.
