Richmond Hill, ON – 888 Auctions is proud to announce its FINE CHINESE FURNITURE AND WORKS OF ART sale on April 10, 2014, featuring an exciting array of fine Chinese furniture, paintings, jadeite, jade, coins, snuff bottles, porcelain, jewellery, precious stones, ceramics, metalware, horn carvings, stamps and coins. Highlighting the April sale will be an impressive collection of antique Chinese furniture. 

Featured on our catalogue cover is Lot 479: Qing Chinese Huanghuali Four Legs Altar Table, dated to be from the Qing period, this precious Huanghuali wood altar table is carved with delicate scrolls motifs and jointed by wood joints with a high estimate of $20,000. Followed by another Chinese Huanghuali Rectangular Corner Leg Stool from the same collection located at Lot 478 carved with auspicious fruits and vines with a high estimate of $12,000. In addition, collectors will be pleased to find Lot 480: A Qing Chinese Rosewood Opium Bed Inset Marble, featuring scrollwork and inset marble dream stone which commands a high estimate of $15,000.  At Lot 484: Set of Four 18th C. Chinese Carved Rosewood Chairs is a very well preserved set of four 18th Century Chinese carved rosewood chairs with marble dream stones with high estimate of $8,000. Not to be missed is an Intricately Carved 18th Century Chinese Zitan Chair located on Lot 486: 18th century Chinese Qing period carved Zitan chair, having openwork carvings throughout, the top crest depicting two dragons flanking by a flaming pearl the back having an oval cartouche of figures in an outdoor setting, the armrests in the form of sinuous dragons supported by figural carvings with a shaped seat having a lappet border with the apron pierce carved with multiple hanging double gourds raised on two claw and ball feet at the front of the splayed legs in the back.  A high estimate of $7,000. 

In the Chinese paintings section collectors will be delighted to find Lot 27: Chinese Village Painting Xu Beihong Certified signed and sealed Xu Beihong. Accompanied with authentication certificate issued by the Xu Beihong memorial museum signed by Xu Beihong’s wife Liao Jing Wen.  This is expected to surpass the high estimate of $20,000. Equally interesting is Lot 127: Chinese Painting Lotus Attributed to Zhang Daqian, an exceptional landscape painting, with Chinese ink and watercolour on paper, commanding the high estimate of $8,000.

Our prestigious jadeite, jade and jewellery collection are located between Lot 144 to Lot 262.  Highlighting the section is Lot 150: Chinese Icy Lavender Jadeite 18K Diamond Pendant,  decorated with auspicious beast and bat climbing on a large bean, mounted on 18K gold mount encrusted with 180 diamonds, in translucent lavender tone with excellent polish, commands a high estimate of $12,000.  Not to be looked over is Lot 168: Fine Translucent Emerald Green Jadeite Bangle, very finely carved bangle with translucent emerald green tone, rounded edge, from T. Ng Collection Toronto, commands a high estimate of $6,000.  Shortly after our jadeite collection, collectors will be excited to find our precious stone collection.  Highlights of the category are Lot 314: Chinese Shoushan Stone Kwanyin Figure, featuring serene expression Kwanyin holding a scepter on lotus plinth, with high estimate of $2,000 and Lot 335: Chinese Tianhuang Stone Certified, accompanied with identification certificate from accredited gem testing center, with high estimation of $6,000. 

Last but not least, is our antique stamp and coin collection which is located between Lot 500 to Lot 540.  Collectors will be pleased to find a variety of rare coins and stamps.  Located at Lot 500 is our star lot, Chinese Song Silver Coin, marked Tian Tong Xian Bao, with high estimation of $1,000.The April auction is composed of 540 lots. 

The preview will be held on Saturday, April 5 from 11 AM to 5 PM, Monday, April 7 from 11 AM to 6 PM, Tuesday, April 8 from 11 AM to 6 PM, Wednesday, April 9 from 11 AM to 6 PM and Thursday, April 10 from 11 AM to 1 PM will be the welcome reception. Auction will be held on Thursday, April 10 from 2 PM.
