888 Auctions Featuring Chinese Paintings, Jade and Works of Art
Richmond Hill, Ont – 888 Auctions is proud to present its Chinese Paintings, Jade, and Works of Art sale on 4 June 2015 featuring traditional paintings, ceramics and bronze cloisonné pieces, and exceptional jade and Tianhuang stone carvings.
The standout piece in 888 Auction’s summer sale is Lot 59: a Chinese Watercolour Xu Beihong (1895-1953) Painting with certificate. Inscribed with artist seal and accompanied with a hand written certificate by Liao Jingwen, the brushwash painting carries a high estimate of $24,000 and is expected to garner the most attention in the sale.
Noted for the soaring auction prices achieved by his traditional watercolour paintings, collectors may be pleased to find the inclusion of letters signed by Zhang Daqian at Lot 2. Found in relatively excellent condition, the ten pages of letters with hardboard cover and back cover measure 21 cm by 21.5 cm and expected to surpass its high estimate of $6,000.
Other important paintings can also be found at the following lots:
Lot 60: Chinese Landscape Hand Scroll Lin Sanzhi 1898-1989 (High Estimate: $6,000)
Lot 109: Landscape Scroll Wang Xuehao 1754-1831 (High Estimate: $3,200)
Stone carved pieces continue to hold special interest for collectors of Asian art and this auction will feature an eclectic variety of auspiciously rare carvings. Charmingly carved in detailed relief is a Fine Chinese White Jade Carved Buddha’s Hand at Lot 268. The fine white jade carved piece featuring fingered citron (Fo Shou) with a string of coins stands on a custom made wood carved stand and carries a high estimate of $7,500. Following the theme of jade carvings, Lot 278 features a Ming Period Jade Carved Bi Disc. The Bi Disc features archaistic patterns on both sides in relief and is expected to surpass its conservative high estimate of $8,000.
In addition to the finely carved jade pieces, 888 Auctions will also feature a Rare Chinese Tianhuang Stone Seal at Lot 165. Featuring low-relief carvings of landscape on the honey yellow toned body, the 12 cm stone carries an $8,000 high estimate.
