888 Auctions Mid-Summer June 23 Sale Featuring Asian Paintings, Jewelry, and Works of Art

Richmond Hill, ON – 449 lots will be on display and up for auction at its June 23 auction entitled, Asian Paintings, Jewelry, and Works of Art. Featuring Chinese ceramics, stone carvings, jewelry, metalware, and watercolour paintings, this summer auction will be attracting great attention and sizzling prices.

Paintings continue to remain a staple at 888 Auctions and this month’s is no exception. Headlining the strong collection of lots is Lot 23, a Watercolour Handscroll, signed Xu Beihong (1895-1953). Featuring magpies perched on plum blossom branches, it is inscribed with one artist seal and expected to surpass its high estimate of $12,000. Lot 70 is also attracting significant attention; a Watercolour on Paper Scroll signed Tang Xinyu, it carries a $5,000 high estimate.

Ceramics continue to make surge in the market reaching respectable prices despite the economic downturn. Collectors looking to add to their collection will be pleased to find two highlighted items. Lot 352 is a Yuan/Ming Period Blue & White Porcelain Vase and is expected to surpass its high estimate of $12,000. Lot 370 is a Yuan/Ming Period Large Blue & White Porcelain Jar and commands a high estimate of $14,000.

From the collection of jewelry however, one lot will be a standout piece: Lot 226: a Chinese Lingzhi Jade Pendant with 18K Gold Bail. The pendant is carved in form of auspicious lingzhi mushroom and the stone is of translucent emerald green tone. The jade pendant sparkles with a high estimate of $4,000.

888 Auctions’ understated and underrated Metalware category continues to draw a surprisingly large interest from collectors. This auction will be featuring one lot that continues to draw considerable interest upon its unveiling: Lot 423, a Gilt Bronze Seated Shakyamuni Buddha hailing from the Wei Dynasty. Standing 32 cm tall and the 1st century gold patinated figure commands a high estimate of $10,000.

Quality furniture makes an appearance at 888 Auctions at Lot 451: a Rosewood Opium Bed w/ Burl Wool Panel Insets. The unique opium bed with burl wool panel insets and chestnut-toned wood carved lacquer carries a $60,000 high estimate.
