Chinese Reticulated Porcelain Qianlong Vase Headlines 888 Auctions’ Chinese and Asian Art

Richmond Hill, ON – 888 Auctions will conduct a Chinese and Asian Art sale on Thursday, July 16th, 2015. The 500-lot sale will be held at 888 Auctions’ saleroom gallery and will begin at 2 p.m. Eastern.

The auction will showcase an enticing collection of Asian art and antiques including but not limited to paintings, porcelains, jewellery, jade and Tianhuang stone carvings, Buddhist deities, as well as finely carved furniture pieces. Items have been selected for their fine aesthetic value and exceptional provenance.

After years of a steady decline in the demand for porcelain ceramics, the summer months have seen resurgence in prices achieved for Chinese porcelains. If 888 Auctions’ recent sales are any indication, porcelain ceramics have consistently hammered down beyond their respective estimates and generated excitement and intrigue.

Thus, the showcase piece of the July 16th auction will feature Lot 372: Chinese Porcelain Reticulated Vase bearing the Imperial Mark of Qianlong. The ovoid reticulated-designed body features auspicious waves in front of crashing waves and bears a six-character Qianlong Mark on base. The late 19th Century/early 20th Century vase is expected to surpass its conservative high estimate of $20,000.

Not to be outdone, a Chinese Fine Mille Fleurs Porcelain Box Qianlong follows closely on its heels at Lot 326. Painted with a profusion of flowers including lily, chrysanthemum and mallow, the six-character Qianlong-marked box commands a $12,000 high estimate.

For those looking towards the past, collectors may be ecstatic over the inclusion of Lot 365: a 19th Century Chinese Famille Verte Porcelain Jar; of oval form with high-raised shoulders, the body features the Hundred Antiques Motif (bogu). Standing 42 cm, the porcelain jar carries a $1,000 high estimate.

Jewellery continues to hold strong interest and collectors may find Lot 260: Very Fine 18K Diamond Emerald Green Jadeite Ring, an exceptional piece of adornment. Estimated at $9,000, the ring needs to be seen in person in order to fully appreciate its quality and brilliance. Moreover, Lot 185 may also be of considerable interest as it features a Grade A Burmese Jadeite Bangle with Certificate. Carrying a high estimate of $8,000, the translucency and quality has been tested by 888 Auctions JadeLab and connoisseurs of jadeite carved masterpieces can bid with confidence.

Other lots of interest can be found at the following lots:

Lot 65: Chinese WC Painting Scroll Wanrong 1906-1946 (High Estimate: $2,000)

Lot 254: Fine Carved Chinese 18th/19thC White Jade Censer (High Estimate: $9,000)

Lot 465: Fine Chinese R-Horn Carved Libation Cup (High Estimate: $8,000)
