Group of Seven Paintings to Headline 888 Auctions’ March 12 Sale

Richmond Hill, ON – 888 Auctions’ March 12th sale of Canadian Art and Asian Antiques will showcase 503 lots featuring three members of the Canadian Group of Seven.

Front and centre in the March sale will be three important Group of Seven paintings in the sale:

Lot 83: Canadian Oil on Panel, A. Y. Jackson (1882-1974) with a $60,000 high estimate
Lot 84: Canadian Oil on Board A. J. Casson (1898-1992) with a $100,000 high estimate
Lot 87: Canadian Oil on Board Arthur Lismer (1885-1969) with a $60,000 high estimate

The three Group of Seven works will compliment 888’s staple of Chinese traditional brush-wash paintings. Collectors will be very interested in the work of Xie Zhilui (1910-1997), which can be found at Lot 50; featuring mountain landscape scene and calligraphy, lot 50 will carry a high estimate of $16,000.

Continuing the eclectic and strong diversity of lots in the March auction, an Ancient Saudi Arabian Greek Sabine Kingdom Case will be featured at Lot 166; the well-preserved case depicting incised designs of figures and ancient script carries a high estimate of $50,000.

Among textiles, collectors will be ecstatic to find at Lot 95, a Chinese blue summer gauze court robe Chi-fu; featuring golden thread embroidery of five-clawed dragons amidst lingzhi clouds on the blue gauze ground. In fine condition, it carries a high estimate of $15,000.

From the collection of jade carvings that have become a staple at 888 Auctions, buyers may find exceptional jade carvings:

Lot 218: Rare White Jade Carved Chilong Seal Jin Period (High Estimate: $40,000)
Lot 192: 3 Pieces of Chinese Fu Lu Shou Jade Carved Bangles (High Estimate: $7,500)

An 888 Auctions would not be complete without Chinese ceramics and this auction is no exception. Featured at Lot 319A, a Qing Period Blue and White Porcelain Charger carries a high estimate of $8,000. Not to be outdone, Lot 361 features a Magnificent Pair of Mandarin Patterned Lobed Pear-shaped Porcelain Vases. It commands a $20,000 high estimate.
